It is also a day of remembrance for all soldiers who died while fighting for their country. ANZAC Day has been celebrated in Australia since October 1915 (in South Australia) then nationally on 25 April 1916. It has been a public holiday across the country since the mid-1920s. ANZAC Day’s phrase ‘Lest We Forget’ is uttered after the reading of the Ode of Remembrance, taken from a poem called ‘For the Fallen’, written by Laurence Binyon in 1914 in England. “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.Anzac Service
